Pumpkin Carvers
Emma has acquired a recent fascination with pumpkin carvers. Here's one example where she got into the fridge, swiped some corn, and used a carver to "find" the corn. Then she decided to eat the cob raw...

Modesto Visitors!
We were so lucky to have a little visit from my brother, Nathan, and his wife, Diana. We can't get enough of them! It was wonderful to just hang out, go to lunch, and visit. Thanks for a great day! We love you!

Quote for the morning
Mommy: "Alex, go show me what you want to wear for church today so it's all ready."
Alex: (after coming downstairs with ALL of his church clothes) "Mommy, I know everything because I have my "remember brain" on! Look and see my pants, my shirt, my socks, my tie, my belt, my shoes...everything!"
I wish it were that easy for me to just turn on my "remember brain"!!!

Family Store
We recently added some new incentives to our "family store" and the kids have been so excited! They can buy friend parties, computer time, breakfast in bed, staying up late, going to sleep on mommy and daddy's bed...there's something for everyone (literally). Can you tell what Alex bought yesterday?!?!?!?

It's pumpkin overkill, I know!
But...it is fall now, so I'm going with it (despite the 80 degree weather outside)! Here's some fun we're having with all our pumpkins from Utah!

Pumpkins Galore
What is it about the fall that makes it so magical!?!?!? Is it feeling a little chill in the air in the morning when you wake up? Taking an afternoon to pick out the perfect pumpkin? Having pumpkin waffles for breakfast (and dinner) with chopped walnuts, maple syrup and whipped cream? Is it going apple picking and spending the day canning with a friend while kids run around and make havoc of the house? Is it making sugar cookies and decorating them with candy corns? Is it smelling all the yummy soups and breads that warm the kitchen and bring the family to the table? Is it experiencing the joy of the harvest (albeit small)? Is it the precursor to the winter holidays? Or is it EVERYTHING about it!!! I L-O-V-E the fall (if you can't tell) and I get "homesick" for it every year here in sunny Orange County. So, I take what I can get and savor it as long as I can (yes, that means that I loaded up almost 50 pumpkins to bring back home to California...MOST of them were miniature)! Even Noall loved getting on his overalls to help pick pumpkins at my aunt and uncle's pumpkin patch while we were in Utah.

Nostalgia
This is quite possibly my favorite place on earth! I love everything about it: the horses, the fields, the mountains, the yard, the climbing tree...literally everything. I have taken so many pictures of this view from my grandparent's balcony - just to make sure that I never forget how much I love it. It is the one place that I feel has always called me home.
Before my little sister was married, I planted tons of flowers in the yard to get ready for the outdoor reception there. We wanted to plant them thickly since we needed their color, but didn't have the luxury of time to wait for them to grow. My grandpa sat outside and watched me work while I dug, weeded, pruned, and planted...I think he didn't want me messing with his flower beds too much! He passed away a few weeks later - that is my last memory with him. Surprisingly, those flowers have grown back for the last two years...they are ridiculously huge and thick now, but I love to see them still there and they always take me back a couple of years!

Grandma Mockli
Noall's grandma passed away last week just after celebrating her 89th birthday. Grandma Donna (as the kids always called her) was a sweet and loving lady and will be greatly missed! We were lucky enough to be able to drive out for a few days and spend time with family for the funeral. The kids traveled really well and it was a wonderful weekend to spend together.
